Safeguarding

"This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of all children and expects our staff and volunteers to share this commitment." Mrs Wood - Head Teacher.

It is the aim of all leaders, managers and governors at Harehills Primary School to create a culture of vigilance where our children’s welfare is promoted and where timely and appropriate safeguarding action is taken if needed.

To enable us to ensure Safeguarding relates to all aspects of life we regularly review all aspects of Safeguarding within school.

Advice for Parents and Carers on How to Keep Your Children Safe Online

We want to ensure that students and parents/carers understand how to ensure young people stay safe online.

  • Keep personal information private, do not share personal details like your address, school, phone number or location.
  • Avoid posting anything that can identify you to a specific location such as your school, football club etc. That includes avoiding posting pictures in an identifiable school uniform or saying where you go online.
  • Make sure your security settings are in place so that you control who sees anything you share online and check these regularly. Don't share passwords even with friends, make them hard to guess and if you think your account has been hacked or cloned report it straight away and change your password.
  • Remember that people online are not always who they say they are. Never agree to meet someone in person you have met online. If someone makes you feel uncomfortable online, log off or block them and tell a trusted adult. Use reporting buttons to report inappropriate behaviour.
  • It's good to know what's going on in the world, but if it gets too much take a break from it and do something that takes you off line, and helps you relax or focus on something else.
  • If you do send something you regret or feel you shouldn't have, please tell someone so we can try and help you put things right. Don't let anyone use something you have shared online to make you do or say things you are not ok with.

This information is to help you and your family keep safe. If you are worried you have been a victim of online abuse or you're worried about somebody else you can report this to CEOP online.

ThinkuKnow have advice for all different ages including parents/carers on all sorts of online issues and where to get support.

If you're being bullied online and would like to talk to someone in confidence you can also speak to Childline on 0800 1111 or talk to them online.

Domestic Violence - Operation Encompass

Operation Encompass is a police and education early information safeguarding partnership enabling educational settings to offer immediate support to children experiencing domestic abuse.

Operation Encompass ensures that there is a notification sent to a school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead prior to the start of the next school day after police officers have attended a report of domestic abuse, where there are children related to either of the adult parties involved. This sharing of information enables appropriate support to be given, dependent upon the needs and wishes of the child.

For more information, please visit the Operation Encompass website -
www.operationencompass.org

We are keen to offer the best support to our pupils and we believe this is going to be extremely beneficial for all those involved.

If you would like further support or information about domestic violence and abuse, please go to: Leeds City Council - Domestic Violence and Abuse.

Staying Safe Online

We take E-Safety very seriously in school and use the S.M.A.R.T. rules to ensure all our children stay safe online.

Online Safety Information for Parents

Young people use the internet for a variety of activities including games, research and homework and, of course, for accessing social networking sites. Whilst they are confident with the technology children are not always able to make the right decisions about what they access, who they talk to and what they might post about themselves and others on the internet.

As part of our commitment to safeguarding our children, and working with parents we have organised e-safety information for parents which includes the following:

  • Mobile Phones
  • Online Games
  • Parent Control tools
  • Risks your child may face online
  • Social Networking
  • Talking to people online
